Can fasting cure some psychological diseases?
The answer:
If we refer to the dictionary of physical and psychological medication, we find endless list of diseases cured by fasting. Fasting gives man patience, patience is a psychiatric ability that cures everything attacks man in his soul like solicitous, dread, tension, stress, … such things need patience to be recovered. The prophet said about this month: "It is the month of patience and patience leads to paradise." Fasting surely cures psychological illnesses because it gives man confidence inside him, a relation with his Lord, clarity with other believers and a desire to do good deeds all the time. This makes man healthy and achieves psychological balance. Psychological balance is the main factor in reforming any individual. Allah says: 10-57: "O mankind! There has come to you a direction from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts," What is in the hearts? It is psychological diseases not physical diseases. As for physical diseases the prophet said about them: "Be hungry and you will be healthy." In another narration he said: "Do fasting and you will be healthy." Allah also says in a short phrase that contains all medication as doctors assure: 7- 31: "Eat and drink, but waste not by excess," All medication is under this phrase: "Eat and drink, but waste not by excess," Some Germans and Americans write at the entrance of their hospitals: The Arab wise man (they don't say the prophet) says: "We are people who only eat when we are hungry and when we eat we never get full, where can illness come to us?" This is the wisdom of the messenger of Allah (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) and his noble companions. So fasting surely cures psychological diseases, physical diseases, mental diseases and all apparent and hidden diseases because it is following Allah's order and the way of prophet Mohammed (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him)
